As publisher of African Diaspora Tourism, an online magazine exploring the cultural heritage of people of African descent, Kitty J. Pope initiated Project Purple Culture because the legacy of musician Prince Rogers Nelson influences many types of artistry and encompasses a broad array of cultural heritage perspectives.
About Us
Project Purple Culture is dedicated to exploring the legacy and cultural heritage influence of iconic musician Prince, one of the greatest artists, entertainers and performers of modern times. Initiated under the auspices of African Diaspora Tourism (ADT), Project Purple Culture (PPC) not only serves to preserve the contributions of Prince Rogers Nelson (Prince) but also serves to promote and stimulate cultural heritage events and tourism.
PPC is also a place where Prince’s fans and artists can stay connected and informed. The late great musician was a one-man cultural heritage product, who was the embodiment of many types of artistry including music, fashion, dance, songwriting, producing, directing, and acting. A cultural understanding of the artistic genius must explore his multi-faceted influence on not only the arts, but also gender, race, relationships and lifestyle.

Purple Family Celebrates the Life of Electrifying Dancer of Prince Fame. (July 1962 - Sept. 2024)
Catherine Vernice Glover, (Cat) a Chicago native was a one-of-a-kind talent who was the electrifying dancer and performer with Prince especially during his Sign Of times and LoveSexy Tours. The chemistry on stage between Prince and Cat was amazingly unreal, making for perfect dance partners. She always graced the stage with joy, energy and passion when performing with Prince. As his perfect dance partner, she complemented his dramatic stage shows with her own creative electrifying dance moves and performances.
Cat always mesmerized the audiences with her styles of dance. She was the Original Electric Lady who lives on in the hearts of fans and the world beyond. Thanks to Cat for her contributions to dance and the creative arts, and for all the beautiful memories. She will be missed as she takes her rest in purple heaven with her iconic dance partner. May she continue to dance and perform with Prince in Love, Peace and Purple Rain.
Tyka shared six children — daughters Danielle Phillips, Crystal Phillips, Chelsea Phillips, and sons Rachard Phillips, Sir Montece Laeil and President — with husband Maurice Phillips.
Before her untimely death, Tyka had begun working on a memoir and had planned a final farewell concert upon retirement from music.
